Travel Medicine

What is Travel Medicine?

When people are travelling internationally, whether it is a short-term visit or a permanent move, certain preventative measures need to be taken to avoid specific complications. Consulting a doctor before international travel is recommended and, in many cases, mandatory before someone is even allowed to leave their native country for another country where certain diseases, insects, and even the local food and water can be harmful in some way. Once a patient knows they are going to be traveling internationally, they should reach out to their physician and be assessed for what needs to be done prior to their trip.

Dr. Sareen will conduct a consultation and inform the patient of what needs to be done, ensuring the patient will have the information they will need to be able to travel safely and be aware any complications that may be factored in based on the patient’s medical history and their overall health. Other aspects that are factored into what precautions to be considered prior to travel are the nation or region they are travelling to, the duration of the trip, and any specific activities that will be undertaken.

Patients can discuss their concerns and plans with Dr. Sareen as well as be administered any required vaccines that are mandated before they can leave the country.
